Red-Winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)- Female
These red-winged blackbirds were seen around Green Lake in Seattle, Washington, on the afternoon of the great Wood Duck Hunt on May 31st, 2011. There were many more located around the lake, but this male flew right at me, with a female following behind. These birds are sexually dimorphic, with the female sharing none of the coloring of the males. The average individual knows these birds as one of the species that died during the Arkansas bird deaths. You can read more about this blackbird here, and find some more examples of bird kills here.
