Pelagic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pelagicus) |
This single cormorant was seen in Green Lake in Seattle, Washington on the afternoon of May 31st, 2011. This was the closest I was able to get to the bird, even with an uber zoom lens. This was my first time seeing this bird in the wild- in Colorado when I see a cormorant it is usually a double-crested. The Pelagic sticks to the west coast of North America mostly, so this is one of those premium sightings that can't happen every day for me (even though it is a common enough bird). You can read more about these birds
